Regimental beer stein.
Item: #DA003
German
Regimental beer stein. The stein belonged to Gefreiter Kopf. He
served in the 7th.
Company of the 9th. Wurttenburg Infantry regiment #
127. He was
stationed in the town of ULM from 1908 to 1910. The bell shaped pewter
lid includes two soldiers. One with a " spiked " helmet and
rifle, the other waving his cap. Steins from the town of ULM
occasionally include a small bird (sparrow) as the thumblift; as does
this classic example. The sparrow represents a local legend about the
bird and the building of the beautiful Cathedral at ULM. The lid is in
perfect shape. Pictured in the central display on the stein is the
Cathedral, a bridge over the Donau River, Kaiser Wilihem and another
Imperial
personality, a miniature shoulder epaulet from the 127th. Infantry
regiment, a soldier on guard wearing a spike helmet and a flag bearing
the Wurttenburg coat of arms. Four scenes decorate the sides of the
stein depicting guard duty, soldiers in a bivouac scene, maneuvers and a
soldier bidding farewell as the bugle blows. Unique to the stein in
inclusion of a notation that this regiment was a participant in the
Kaisermanover of 1909. Only selected units were selected for this honor
and the notation is rare. The litopane depicting a reservist and his
girlfriend is perfect with no spider webs. While the colors are bright
on the activity scenes, there is some partial fading of the notation at
the top of the stein just below the lid. The roster of individuals is
obscured. With these two exceptions, the stein is perfect in every way
and otherwise near mint condition.
