MEISSEN - Tea cup and saucer circa 1765. Cup: height 17/8", saucer: diameter 5 1/8" Mark: crossed swords and dot under glaze blue on cup and saucer, impressed numeral "27" to saucer. The cup and saucer are painted in purple monochrome (camaieu) with genre landscape and river front scene. The cup exterior is painted with a three - quarter panorama. The paintings, of exceptionally fine quality possibly painted by Bonaventura Gottlieb Hauer, a painter at Meissen after 1724 to about 1775. The cup interior with a flower in the center The interior rim of the cup and saucer have a gold dentil border. The cup has two golden flowers painted on either side of the handle, gilded details on the handle and gilt rim around the base. Condition: Very good |
