Meissen - dinner plate.

     MEISSEN - Dinner plate, circa 1750 - 1760. Mark: Crossed swords in under glaze blue,   "54"  impressed. Diameter: 9", height 1 1/2". The plate has a petal - shaped edge. The flange decorated with scattered springs and bouquets of natural flowers within delicate gilt scrollwork borders. Battle scenes following prints by Rugendas are painted in the center of the plate. Meissen wares painted with military scenes are largely inspired by engravings by Georg Philipp Rugendas (1666 - 1742) who worked in Augsburg. Military decoration is more commonly found at Meissen painted in purple monochrome. This plate is from a rare service painted in polychrome. Condition:  Good
