 Meissen dinner plate.
Deep dinner plate, circa 1770. Mark: Crossed swords and dot under glaze blue, " 12 "  impressed. Diameter 10 3/8", height 1 3/4". The dish has a petal - shaped edge and a basked
Meissen weave relief border ( Alt Ozier pattern ). The center is painted with polychrome exotic birds, possibly by the bird - painter Mann. The border is decorated in purple monochrome with scattered springs and bouquets of flowers. Gold rim line. Good shape with no cracks or chips, some wear to surface and rim. The word " osier " in both French and English, refers to the twigs of various members of the willow family that were used for basket wearing and wicker work. The Germans adopted this term from the French as it apparently seemed especially appropriate. The Alt Ozier relief pattern was modeled in 1735. Around 1774 big ornithological Dinner Service with similar exotic birds was ordered by Mr. J. A. Reepmaker, member of on eminent patrician family and Lord Mayor of Rotterdam in 1787.
