| In 1920' R. Lalique
designed cases for desk clocks, table clocks and mantel clocks, both large
pendules, from 8" to 14" high and small pendulettes - about 4" to 6" high.
Nineteen clocks were offered in Lalique's 1932 catalogue. Four are
similarly shaped, 6" high rectangles on flared bases with round faces. All
are reverse molded, and their designs are 6 Hirondelles -
three pairs of swallows on florid branches, 4 Perruches -
two pairs of long tailed budgerigars on limbs, with a flowering tree in
between, 5 Hirondelles - a quintet of swallows in flight and
Bouquet de marguerites - perky stylized daisies irregularly
dotting the top and sides of the case. As for Lalique's later glass clock,
the smaller of these generally told time by means of winding movements
made in Switzerland, usually the eight day type. The larger ones were run
by electricity, battery or mains, the majority of them with various faces
bearing the mark of the firm ATO. A original R. Lalique "4 Perruches" frosted glass desk clock with Swiss 8- day movement, molded in relief with two pairs of long tailed budgerigars on limbs, with a flowering tree in between. Hard to see molded mark: R. Lalique. Circa: 1925. This clock is in very good original condition free from chips, cracks or repairs. |
