BERLIN - well painted teacup and saucer in very good condition. Perfect shape with no cracks or chips. Mark : Blue sceptre in under glaze blue on cup and saucer. Cup - impressed "2" and formers or painters mark, saucer - impressed "3" and "W". Circa 1840 - 1860. The saucer interior and teacup exterior are decorated in polychrome with birds and small butterflies. The rim are painted in gold with broad bonds of scrollwork. The cup has a leaf end handle heightened in gilding, gilt rim around the base. Compare : Godden's Guide to European Porcelain (1993) by Geoffrey Godden pl 313. Good shape with no crack or chips, some wear to surface and rim. |
