Tea caddy circa 1770.

 

 

  

  A Meissen Tea Caddy and Cover, about 1770, height 5 1/8". Mark: crossed swords and dot under glaze blue, impressed number "64". The tea canister is rectangular with rounded shoulders, vertical ribbed sides. It has a slightly domed ribbed lid, and a pine cone finial. The caddy is painted in mauve monochrome with an oriental flower issuing from stylized rockwork that wraps around the sides and onto the back. On the back a small butterfly in flight is also painted. The flowers have tiny gold accents. The lid has a similar decoration. Condition: Very good.
