A Meissen Goldchinesen saucer.

A Meissen porcelain early 1720s. Mark : trace of luster roughly written letters C S, number "2" , hart symbol in pale brownish red . Height: 3/4", diam.:5" It is in creamy glaze. The initials "C S" stand for Johann Christoph Schaffler, he was a painter at the Meissen factory already in 1711. In recent years there has been much controversy as to whether all gold chinoiseries were done at Augsburg or some at Meissen. The decorative style point to the workshop of the brothers Bartholomaus and Abraham Seuter in Augsburg. The center interior of the saucer is painted in gold with a chinoiserie scene of three figures seated and standing in conversation in a garden by the tree. The scene is placed on an arabesque pedestal. The interior rims have C-scroll and circumflex bands. The foot rim is gilt, as are the exterior borders of the upper rim. Condition: very good.
